The globalization of legal practice necessitates legal professionals capable of navigating linguistic, cultural, and institutional diversity. Intercultural communicative competence (ICC) is essential for effective legal communication in such contexts. Michael Byram’s model of ICC, which integrates attitudes, knowledge, interpretive and interactional skills, and critical cultural awareness, offers a theoretically robust framework for legal education. This article examines the application of Byram’s model within Uzbek legal education, illustrating its relevance through examples drawn from civil law practices, courtroom discourse, and international treaty implementation. Pedagogical strategies, including task-based and case-based learning, reflective practice, and foreign language instruction, are discussed. The study highlights challenges in developing ICC in Uzbekistan, including curricular separation of language and law, limited teacher training, and restricted exposure to authentic intercultural communication. Recommendations for integrating Byram’s model into legal curricula are provided, emphasizing the preparation of legally competent and ethically reflective professionals.
