University of Exeter 2. Loughborough University Description The purpose of the research that underpins this report was to identify current practices amongst National Libraries regarding the digital preservation of legal deposit Open Access (OA) monographs. The goal was to gain a deeper understanding of what the needs are for an international preservation network of National Libraries, and to better understand current practices, workflows and policy landscapes within which the National Libraries operate. In this research we conducted process mapping workshops with five National Libraries, including, the British Library, Library and Archives Canada, the National Library of Scotland, Qatar National Library and the National Library of the Czech Republic. These process mapping workshops have all been documented within this report as case studies and correlating process maps, with the process maps included as appendices. In these workshops, seven workflow phases were identified in the digital preservation of OA monographs. These were: identify; acquisition; pre-ingest; ingest; repository management; digital preservation; and access. Each National Library then identified the various touchpoints in relation to these phases of their individual processes, which include external stakeholders, internal teams and departments and internal and external systems.
