Reality as Structure, Relevance, and Experience: An Expanded Dual-Aspect Model of Systemic Inner Perspective
This paper develops a dual-aspect model of reality in which structure and experience are not understood as separate substances, but as two inseparable aspects of the same real process. The model begins from a minimal ontological premise: reality is only determinable where difference exists. Difference allows structure; structure allows dynamics; and dynamics, when organized into bounded systems, gives rise to inner–outer relations. The paper argues that experience should not be understood as a late emergent addition to otherwise non-experiential structure. Instead, experience is proposed as the inner appearance of systemic relevance. A bounded, self-maintaining system does not process differences neutrally, but in relation to its own stability, boundaries, needs, dangers, and possible responses. Physical examples such as waves, fields, conservation of energy, stable states, and quantum configurations are used as motivation for understanding reality as dynamic and processual rather than as a collection of static objects. Biological and psychological examples such as pain, color perception, body boundaries, dissociation, metacognition, and integration illustrate how experience becomes system-specific and progressively organized. Consciousness is understood as integrated and accessible experience, while self-consciousness is understood as reflective, self-related experience. The model does not claim to provide a complete physical proof of experience, but offers a coherent framework in which the existence of experience does not require an unexplained emergence from non-experience. This paper is an expanded Version 2 of the earlier working paper “Reality as Structure and Experience: A Dual-Aspect Model without Emergence.”
