The Founding Outline of the Dao-Er System: From the Dyadic Origin to a New Paradigm of Modern Chinese Philosophy — An Introduction to the Four-Part System
Both traditional Chinese philosophy and Western metaphysics take unity as their ontological starting point, and the line from the *Tao Te Ching* — “The Dao gives birth to the One, the One gives birth to the Two” — has long been interpreted as asserting the logical priority of the One over the Two. This paper fundamentally challenges that reading: it argues that dyadicity (the Two) is ontologically and logically prior to unity (the One). The primordial Dao is not an undifferentiated absolute unity, but a dyadic origin structured by complementarity, tension, and relation. The “One” is not the origin, but the stabilized and manifest result of the dyadic relationship. This paper reconstructs Chapter 42 of the *Tao Te Ching* through a transcendental argument, distinguishing the order of generation from the order of ontology, and clarifying its boundaries relative to dualism, dialectics, and process philosophy. It ultimately establishes the Dao-Er ontological system, founding the “dyadic priority” as the first principle of the entire Dao-Er philosophy.
