The Paradox of Rigor in Relationships — Why the “Wavy Equal” (≈) Can Be More Rigorous Than “=” —
The pursuit of perfect equality (=) often makes relationships more fragile. This paper explores the paradox of rigor through the lens of Load Minimization Theory (LMT). We propose calling the approximation symbol ≈ the “Wavy Equal”(or “Fluctuating Equal”). While “=” represents high Q⁻ (rigid, high-load) rigor that demands perfect alignment, the “Wavy Equal” embodies low-load Q⁺ rigor that gently embraces fluctuation and allows the other party to remain authentically themselves. This approach fosters more sustainable, warm, and creative connections — not only between humans, but also between humans and AI.
