Modern reasoning systems — especially Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) — rely on recursive continuation to perform reflective inference, counterfactual evaluation, and iterative refinement. Under admissible conditions, recursion performs eliminative work: candidate representations are tested under constraint, uncertainty contracts, and viable solution space narrows toward convergence. Within the McPhetridge constraint-first architecture, recursion is admissible only when it produces eliminative effect. When recursive continuation persists without: * entropy contraction, * new executable falsifiers, * or candidate elimination, the system enters a condition of non-admissible recursive drift. This is not deeper reasoning. It is continuation without constraint effect. The distinction matters because two fundamentally different mechanisms now exist around this same condition: 1. Dynamic Recursive Entropy (DRE) — a diagnostic and admissibility framework designed to detect and terminate recursive drift. 2. Recursive Drift Exploitation — adversarial or pathological recursive continuation designed to sustain drift for resource exhaustion, semantic inflation, or non-productive computation. These are not equivalent. One is a constraint-governed defense layer. The other weaponizes the absence of that layer.
