The Narrativity of History and the Historicity of Narrativity: A Review of Paul Ricoeur's Insight on Historical and Fictional Narratives
History is a narrative or at least is accounted in the form thereof, while memory bears a structure resembling the narrative character of human expression. In this paper, I would like us to focus on the two elements of history and narrative. Reflecting on Paul Ricoeur’s insight on the narrative function of history and fiction, I will explore how narrative very much forms part of human life and of our understanding of history.
