Contemporary debates at the intersection of science, philosophy, religion, and public discourse increasingly reveal tensions and social consequences associated with absolutist conceptions of truth, the view that some human framework has final, unmediated access to reality as it is in itself. This paper argues that two independent domains of inquiry converge toward a shared epistemological conclusion: epistemic humility. The first source of pressure arises from quantum mechanics. The measurement problem, complementarity, Wigner’s Friend scenarios, and relational and agent centered interpretations collectively complicate the classical ideal of a fully observer independent and perspective free physical description (Myrvold 2022; Rovelli 1996; Fuchs, Mermin, and Schack 2014). The second source emerges from cognitive science and psychology. Confirmation bias, motivated reasoning, identity protective belief maintenance, and the neuroscience of worldview defense suggest that human beings do not approach foundational frameworks as neutral truth trackers, but as agents whose deepest commitments are entangled with identity, uncertainty management, existential security, and vulnerability to polarization (Nickerson 1998; Rollwage et al. 2020; Kaplan, Gimbel, and Harris 2016; Morriss et al. 2022). Neither development entails relativism. Quantum mechanics does not show that truth is observer relative in every domain, and psychological scaffolding does not by itself invalidate the content of the beliefs it supports. Rather, the paper argues that these two literatures independently motivate the same epistemological conclusion: that no human framework possesses unquestionable, framework transcendent access to reality. Drawing on moderate alethic pluralism, particularly the work of Crispin Wright (1992) and Michael P. Lynch (2009), the paper proposes a form of epistemically humble realism as an alternative to both absolutism and relativism. On this view, truth remains a serious normative ideal, different domains may sustain different but objective standards of justification, and the principal 1 intellectual virtue appropriate to this condition is epistemic humility informed by fallibilism, particularly in contexts of deep disagreement and social polarization (Porter et al. 2022; Gollwitzer et al. 2024; Pedersen 2018). In science, this has frequently appeared in forms of scientific realism that regard mature theories as progressively disclosing reality as it is in itself, converging toward an increasingly complete and observer independent account of the natural world. In religion, it appears through appeals to revelation, scriptural finality, or uniquely salvific doctrine that cannot in principle be corrected by finite human inquiry. In philosophy, it appears in metaphysical and epistemological systems that aspire to identify the final structure of reality or reason, beyond which nothing further remains to be said. Such aspirations were historically intelligible. Classical physics appeared to support a picture of the world as composed of determinate objects governed by exact and universal laws. Religious traditions could ground certainty in divine omniscience and the authority of revealed truth, while major philosophical traditions often assumed that reason could rise above contingency and perspective to disclose the necessary structure of being. Yet these aspirations rested on assumptions that subsequent developments in physics and psychology have made increasingly difficult to sustain. Quantum theory places significant pressure on naive forms of observer independent realism, though it does not by itself establish any particular alternative metaphysi
