Structural Selection: Selection as a Necessary Consequence of Admissible Persistence Architecture
This structure is not introduced here. It is already implicit in the Foundation Series and is isolated in the present paper. Papers D001–D005 derived structural time, information, causality, decision, and energy as necessary consequences of LP admissibility restriction. This paper derives structural selection as the sixth necessary consequence: the monotonic filtering of non-persistent configurations from any population of LP-admissible systems under sustained transformation load. The central claim: selection is not a biological mechanism, a competitive process, or an optimization procedure added to the structural framework. Selection is the structural fact that systems failing to maintain IR ≤ 1 exit the Coherence Zone and cannot recover — while systems maintaining IR ≤ 1 remain. Any population of LP-admissible systems under sustained transformation load necessarily undergoes structural selection. The persistent survive not because they are chosen but because persistence is what remaining means. Three theorems are proven. Theorem D6.1 — Mandatory Exit: any system that sustains IR > 1 beyond its compensation capacity exits the Coherence Zone irreversibly. Theorem D6.2 — Structural Selection Pressure: populations of LP-admissible systems under shared transformation load undergo monotonic reduction toward configurations that maintain IR ≤ 1. Theorem D6.3 — Selection Memory: the configurations that survive structural selection carry structural information about the transformation history that eliminated predecessors. Corollary D6.4 (Class C) identifies biological natural selection, economic market selection, institutional survival, and psychological resilience as domain instantiations of structural selection. Selection is not a force applied to systems from outside. It is the structural consequence of the persistence condition applied to populations: what cannot persist, does not.
