The Bridge to Redescription: Beyond the Edge of Completion through Residual–Preservation Conflict

Major redescriptions are often recognized retrospectively as leaps. Before such a leap stabilizes, however, there is usually a more tractable boundary condition: an existing framework can still accommodate difficulty through auxiliary repairs, while the same residual difficulty remains. This paper asks how, at that boundary, a candidate reconnection for redescription becomes available without being treated as arbitrary intuition. The central claim is that candidate reconnections become available for disciplined registration and testing when a residual requirement is brought into conflict with a preservation structure exposed by epicyclic repair, and when the demand that must remain under a proposed cut is isolated. A seed candidate is not the mature successor theory, nor the later principle or form that realizes it. It is a minimal reconnection that attempts to satisfy both the residual requirement and the post-cut inherited requirement while reducing patch burden. In compressed form, the relation is residual requirement × post-cut inherited requirement; the symbol marks a constructive relation, not formal multiplication. The paper develops a bridge sequence from epicyclic repair to seed candidate registration and illustrates it through three schematic cases: Ptolemaic to heliocentric/Keplerian reconstruction, Newtonian formation, and Newtonian mechanics to relativistic reconstructions. The sequence does not automate discovery or prospectively certify future redescriptions. It shows how candidate availability can become more structured, more constrained, and more testable.
