Fragmentation and coherence are often treated as indicators of truth or alignment. Fragmentation is associated with confusion or error, while coherence is associated with clarity and correctness. In my experience, neither condition reliably functions as proof. Fragmentation can accompany genuine discernment, particularly when multiple internal movements have not yet been ordered. Coherence can arise from alignment, but it can also arise from internal reinforcement, simplification, or premature narrative closure. This paper clarifies fragmentation and coherence as structural conditions rather than truth indicators. It distinguishes disjointedness from misalignment and integration from correctness, and it introduces the distinction between false clarity and true legibility. Its contribution is boundary-stabilizing: it prevents the elevation of coherence into authority and the dismissal of fragmentation as error.
