An objection to an atonement account can be answered by adding a rule: Christ's worth converts finite suffering into sufficient satisfaction; a representative's act counts for those represented; or a divine declaration changes a person's standing. Such additions are not defective simply because they are unseen, introduced after criticism, or incapable of laboratory testing. Some genuinely explain a status change. The problem arises when their success in restoring coherence is treated as sufficient evidence that the proposed redemptive route is actual. This paper distinguishes causal, constitutive, and relational explanations, then separates three achievements: repairing an inconsistency, supporting an outcome, and supporting a particular explanation of that outcome. Worked examples distinguish payment from waiver, partial support from proof, and forgiveness from restored trust. Positive cases show how later-discovered evidence or reasoning from supported premises can vindicate a repair. A sourced application credits internal theological criticism before identifying the further premises needed for a stronger conclusion. The framework also addresses infinite worth, mystery, and combinations of atonement models. The resulting diagnostic asks what is being explained, what connects the starting condition to the result, and what supports that connection beyond its usefulness in securing the result. It does not impose six universal prerequisites, require elimination of every alternative, or deny that removing a defeater can restore warrant. Its bounded conclusion is that coherence repair alone does not establish a proposed redemptive explanation; the remaining evidential burden depends on the kind and strength of claim being made.
