With this support materials trainers will find all the resources to deliver a 2h face-to-face or adapt to a webinar session on Empowering researchers: retaining copyright and maximizing your impact in Open Access Publishing , available in OpenPlato - https://openplato.eu/course/view.php?id=134 Here you will find guidelines, session plans, materials for each activity, and participants' evaluations so that you can carry out the course yourself. Training goals By the end of this course, the learners should be able to: Know about authors and publisher rights, define copyright agreement limits; Amend a copyright agreement. Choose appropriate Licences as well as differentiate level of access rights and state types of licences. Retain copyright to a publication and apply Green OA to your discipline/project/workflow. Course structure The course will cover the following topics: Introduction to Copyright and Open Access: Overview of copyright basics and the global landscape of open access. Rights Retention Strategy (RRS): Detailed sessions on RRS, including practical exercises using templates and real-world scenarios. Publishing Routes and Their Implications: Exploration of various publishing models and their impacts on authors' rights and obligations. Workshops and Hands-on Training: Practical application through case studies, role-playing, and problem-solving exercises related to copyright and publishing. Learning outcomes The learners will gain tools to: Effectively retain copyright: Understand and implement Rights Retention Strategies to maintain control over their own published works, ensuring they can meet funder requirements for open access. Navigate various publishing landscapes: Identify and choose between Gold, Hybrid, and Diamond Open Access avenues, and understand the implications of each on their rights and academic visibility. Utilize legal resources to safeguard rights: Apply tools such as the Creative Commons licenses and template letters to negotiate and secure their rights during the publication process. Advocate for open access policies: Leverage their knowledge to influence institutional and publisher policies toward more open and equitable sharing of knowledge.
