philosophy
Highly specialized skills and knowledge are traditionally considered indicators of intellectual sophistication and decision-making competence. However, contemporary evidence indicates that individuals with advanced expertise remain susceptible to misinformation, fake news, and black propaganda. This paper examines the paradox wherein technical or academic specialization does not immunize individuals against manipulative information, explores the underlying cognitive and social mechanisms, and presents examples highlighting the consequences of this vulnerability. The analysis is enriched with Ken Wilber’s Integral Theory, which frames human understanding as multidimensional, highlighting why specialization in one quadrant or level does not ensure resilience in others.
