The Psychological Collapse of Love: Ego, Projection, and the Transformation of Attachment

This paper examines the psychological structure of love, attachment, heartbreak, projection, and consciousness. It argues that emotional suffering in relationships does not arise merely from separation itself, but from the collapse of psychological continuity constructed through thought, memory, imagination, expectation, and egoic identification. The paper proposes that attachment is not identical to love. Attachment is psychologically constructed through projection, comparison, ownership, fear of loss, and the desire for permanence. The beloved gradually becomes intertwined with identity itself, functioning as emotional security, meaning, continuity, and escape from loneliness. Thus, when relationships fracture, the ego experiences destabilization, producing anger, betrayal, jealousy, sadness, hatred, and existential fragmentation. Beyond relational suffering, the paper further explores individuality, separation, freedom, and responsibility as movements of consciousness itself rather than isolated psychological concepts. It ultimately advances a non-dual phenomenological view in which consciousness is not merely personal, but intrinsic to existence itself. In this view, human beings are localized expressions through which the universe becomes aware of itself.
