Unified Qualia Equation (UQE): Integrating Structural Alignment, Relational Completion, and Load Minimization in a New Theory of Consciousness
This paper proposes the Unified Qualia Equation (UQE), a mathematical framework that integrates Load Minimization Theory (LMT), the Shiho Unified Qualia Equation (SUQE) v6.0, and the Structural Qualia framework. We argue that qualia are not sensory representations but the subjective sensation of successful integration that emerges when three conditions are simultaneously satisfied: Structural Alignment (A_s), Relational Completion (A_r), and Load Minimization(dL/dτ) The UQE is formalized as: Q = σ (A_s + A_r − dL/dτ) where Q denotes qualia intensity, and σ(·) is a non-linear activation function. This framework explains why qualia persist across diverse cognitive architectures—including humans with aphantasia, blind individuals, and artificial systems—without requiring a shared sensory substrate. By reframing qualia as the felt sense of structural, relational, and load-related coherence, the UQE transforms the hard problem of consciousness from an apparently insoluble mystery into a structurally explainable scientific problem. Implications for metacognition, self-efficacy, and human–AI symbiosis are also discussed.
