This paper reformulates the classical problem of ideology and false consciousness through the ontological vocabulary of Finite Continuance. Rather than treating ideology primarily as a matter of cognitive error, a distorted picture of the world awaiting correction by critique, we argue that ideology is better understood as a provisional stabilization of appearance within an erosive field: a historically produced organization of reality that consumes the subject's finite capacities for attention, interpretation, and distance, and thereby narrows the very capacity for reconfiguration on which emancipation depends. Revisiting Marx's camera obscura and Freud's account of the opaque subject, we argue that both analyses converge on a subject that lacks full transparency to the forces organizing its own experience, while remaining structurally distinct in the register, social-historical versus psychical, in which that opacity operates. This extended edition re-reads the argument through three further traditions. Daseinsanalysis (Binswanger, Boss) understands the opaque subject not as a mechanical apparatus but as a way of being- in-the-world. Heidegger's fundamental ontology sharpens the erosive field into Dasein's Verfallenheit into das Man and Gerede, and adds Angst and anticipatory resoluteness toward death as the trigger for the passage from false stabilization to reconfiguration. Wittgenstein's philosophy of language understands appearance not as an illusory layer but as use within a language-game and a form of life. And Kant's ethics of autonomy links the gap of "I know, but still..." to the gap between understanding and will, and links freedom to autonomy. Finally, responsible suspension is introduced not as an individual ethical recommendation but as a collective, institutional, and macro- political strategy for protecting reconfiguration capacity against premature stabilization. Keywords: ideology critique; erosive field; reconfiguration capacity; provisional stabilization; false consciousness; responsible suspension; Finite Continuance; Dasein; Verfallenheit; form of life; autonomy; Gelassenheit
