Fact, Truth, and Experience: A Framework for Epistemic Integrity in Closed Systems
Building upon my previous paper, entitled Gödel Reframed: Incompleteness as System Error, this paper offers a clarified framework that distinguishes between fact, truth, and experience. Three concepts often conflated in public discourse, academic philosophy, and personal identity. I argue that facts represent objective conditions of reality, independent of human interpretation; truths are provisional conclusions validated within a specific system of logic or proof; and experience is the internal logic by which an individual processes and integrates lived events, often mislabeled as “personal truth.” This distinction is not merely semantic. It has consequences for epistemology, ethics, and AI alignment. By untangling these layers, we gain a more precise lens for evaluating claims, resolving conflict, and designing systems that respect both empirical rigor and subjective narrative. The framework presented here emerged while responding to Dr. Rich Spiegel’s article on AI philosophy, entitled, “Problems with the Philosophy of AI.” His examination of religion as it relates to Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorems prompted this deeper inquiry into the layers beneath belief, knowledge, and cognition.
