Every major category of real-world asset — real estate, commodities, financial instruments, intellectual property — has, in the modern era, acquired mechanisms for verification, certification, and transfer. One asset class has remained stubbornly outside this infrastructure: cognitive capital. An individual’s demonstrated ability to model reality accurately and anticipate its future states — what the ancient Greeks called intelligence in its deepest sense — has never had a verified, portable, tamperproof representation. Credentials measure inputs, not outputs. Reputation is informal and non-transferable. Track records are self-reported and unauditable. This paper argues that the convergence of prediction markets, blockchain technology, and non-fungible tokens makes possible, for the first time, the tokenization of cognitive capital as a genuine real-world asset. We introduce Proof of Intelligence (PoI): a cryptographically verified, temporally immutable, publicly auditable record of an agent’s forecasting history, encoded as an NFT. We show that PoI satisfies the conditions for a real-world asset in the non-material domain — verifiability, portability, non-falsifiability, and market transferability — and that it creates an entirely new asset class: the intelligence credential. We ground this argument in the Greek philosophical tradition connecting intelligence to predictive capacity, in the neuroscientific confirmation of that connection, in Kahneman’s diagnosis of why unverified individual judgment fails, and in Hayek’s framework for understanding knowledge aggregation. Futarchy and epistemic governance appear as one important application of this infrastructure, not its central purpose.
