Chthonic Sovereignty: _Patriarchal Misvaluation of Origin as a Structural Governance Failure_

This is a governance paper. It introduces integrity inversion as a distinct failure mode in governance theory, alongside the more familiar pathologies of drift, capture, and presentism: the failure mode in which a system’s own protective logic turns against the conditions that make its continued operation possible. I argue that the patriarchal misvaluation of generative origin is a paradigmatic instance of this failure mode—not only a moral defect but a structural pathology of sovereignty. Building on the thesis that misogyny inherits, rather than fabricates, the symbolic cluster linking femininity with depth, embodiment, and origin, and then misassigns that cluster a negative moral value, I develop the positive concept of chthonic sovereignty—sovereignty constituted through acknowledged relation to generative origin rather than through its symbolic expulsion—and argue that any governance system which purchases coherence through the denial of its originating conditions enters a predictable trajectory of epistemic closure, structural brittleness, and legitimacy erosion. The argument is illustrated through readings of the Greek chthonic–Olympian transition, Genesis 3–4 under a governance lens, and a worked institutional case in the Te Awa Tupua (Whanganui River Claims Settlement) Act 2017.
