Population, Capitalism, and Natural Balance: A Unified Systems Theory
This paper integrates macroeconomics, demographic economics, ecological economics, and systems philosophy to examine capitalism as an adaptive coordination mechanism embedded within population dynamics. Rather than viewing capitalism as a permanent institutional arrangement, the study interprets it as a phase-dependent regulatory structure optimized for conditions of demographic expansion. When population declines, the growth-oriented incentives of capitalism become structurally misaligned with system scale, producing stagnation, asset instability, and institutional stress. The analysis demonstrates that demographic contraction does not imply economic collapse but triggers systemic transition from expansion coordination to equilibrium coordination. The long-term trajectory of advanced societies is therefore a transformation from growth capitalism toward balance-oriented economic organization.
