Entanglement as Geometric Coherence: A Projection-Based Philosophical Interpretation of Quantum Correlations

philosophy
This essay proposes a philosophical and representational interpretation of quantum entanglement. Its central claim is not that entanglement requires a new physical mechanism, but that part of its conceptual strangeness arises from attempting to represent a non-separable global state as if it were a pair of independently defined local objects. The paper develops a projection-based reading in which local outcomes are interpreted as contextual projections or sections of a shared global structure. This approach does not replace the standard Hilbert-space formalism, nor does it solve the measurement problem. Rather, it provides a geometric language for understanding why entanglement appears paradoxical under a separable ontology. The essay explicitly distinguishes this interpretation from local hidden-variable models and causal-transmission accounts, and it situates the proposal in relation to relational quantum mechanics, Everettian approaches, Bohmian mechanics, and quantum information theory. The main contribution is therefore representational rather than predictive: geometric coherence is introduced as a conceptual stance for describing correlations that arise from the non-factorizability of the global state. The essay concludes by identifying three unresolved questions that any stronger physical theory would need to answer: the space in which the global structure lives, the mechanism by which a projection is selected during measurement, and the recovery of the Born rule.
