The rise and fall of the Zhou Dynasty represents not only a historical process but also a systemic experiment in human civilization under specific energy and informational constraints. This paper employs a scientific-philosophical and systems-theoretical perspective to analyze the low-entropy governance structures of the Zhou Dynasty, including its decentralized power network, kinship-based hierarchy, and ritual-music system. The study reveals that the dynasty’s success was grounded in a low-energy, highly stable order, while its collapse stemmed from structural path dependency and fragile legitimacy. The intellectual responses of the Hundred Schools—Confucius, Laozi, and the Legalists—can be understood as theoretical attempts to repair the failed system, representing ethical reconstruction, governance humility, and high-energy control strategies, respectively. Further, by comparing ancient and modern systems, the Zhou experience provides insight into contemporary federalism, institutional trust crises, and the risks of decentralized governance. Finally, the study aligns the Zhou Dynasty’s rise and fall with the principles of Low-Entropy Natural Civilization under the Lao–Yang Genesis Cosmology, deriving three universal structural rules for sustainable civilization: all institutions are subject to entropy, low-entropy order requires continuous renewal, and legitimacy is a dynamic relation. The findings offer a scientific-philosophical guide for modern civilization: respecting entropy laws, optimizing energy structures, and continuously calibrating legitimacy are key to achieving sustainable societal order.
