Against Non-Identity Phenomenalism
In this bachelor's thesis, I argue against a possible reading of Kant's transcendental idealism, namely Non-Identity Phenomenalism. I first present some of Kant's basic terms that will be relevant for an understanding of this reading. Secondly, I show the two axes through which one can read Kant, namely (1) Identity versus non-identity and (2) phenomenalism versus anti-phenomenalism. Lastly, I hone in on the aforementioned reading - a conjunction of a position on each of the axes - and argue for its inappropriateness by showing how it contradicts with some statements made by Kant himself regarding appearances.
