Chronology Violation in Einstein-Maxwell Binaries
We investigate the formation of closed timelike curves (CTCs) in rotating two-body solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations. After reviewing classical CTC geometries, we analyze interacting near-extremal rotating sources and identify parameter regimes in which the metric component g_ϕϕ becomes negative in a bounded region between the bodies. We verify that the weak energy condition is satisfied throughout the spacetime and examine the causal structure of the resulting chronology horizon. A linear perturbative analysis within a restricted sector reveals no unstable modes in the parameter range examined. Semiclassical considerations are discussed at a heuristic level.
