Ptolemy’s Thousand-Year Harm
Human civilization is currently immersed in an unprecedented collective illusion. Two thousand years ago, Claudius Ptolemy forced the Earth into the center of the universe through a system of intricate “epicycles” and “deferents.” Although Copernicus later shattered this physical geocentric model in astronomy, humanity has never truly escaped that narrow, narcissistic circle in philosophy, politics, economics, and spirituality. I refer to this cognitive distortion as the “virus of anthropocentrism.” The purpose of this book is to carry out a thorough, historical reckoning of this two-thousand-year-long intellectual crime. The Shadow of Ptolemy: The Longest-Lasting Intellectual Shackles on Humanity We must confront a sobering truth: Ptolemy was not merely an astronomer—he was the longest-lasting purveyor of pseudoscience in human history. By manipulating observational data and constructing extremely complex mathematical sophistries, he forcibly stitched together an illusion that matched the political and religious needs of his time. This illusion not only crippled humanity’s physical intuition for fifteen centuries, but also embedded a fatal logic into the underlying code of civilization: that the world must revolve around “me.” Though Ptolemy is long dead, his intellectual descendants—anthropocentrism—still dominate modern civilization. From capitalist logic that treats the Earth as an infinite supply satellite, to technological arrogance that seeks to dominate natural evolution, modern humanity continues to operate within Ptolemaic epicycles. We measure the universe by the yardstick of our own desires, yet fail to realize that such centralized arrogance is the root cause of all civilizational crises. Four Self-Destruction Machines of Civilization: From Illusion to Collapse When a species believes itself to be the center of the universe, it inevitably activates a self-destructive apparatus. In this book, I analyze this as four major “doom machines”: • Religious Deception: Religion exploits human fear of the unknown to create personalized “gods,” thereby enabling psychological control. This is essentially a projection of anthropocentrism onto the spiritual domain—by inventing gods concerned with human trivialities, we sacrifice the pursuit of true cosmic laws (the Dao). • War Madness: Driven by centralized illusion, humanity treats its own kind as expendable “non-self” resources and frames expansion as a civilizational mission. From Assyrian war chariots to modern nuclear weapons, humanity is merely engaging in increasingly efficient yet meaningless intra-species self-destruction. • Capital Greed: Capitalism is an economic variant of Ptolemaic logic. It assumes the Earth is an inexhaustible reservoir, completely ignoring the Second Law of Thermodynamics (entropy increase). This extractive economic model is, in essence, a collective overdraft on the future—a drug-like frenzy of growth. • Technological Faith: When modern science degenerates into a marketplace of fame and profit, technology becomes a new religion. We blindly believe that “technology can solve everything,” while ignoring the nonlinear backlash that arises when complex systems are violated. Algorithmic authoritarianism and fantasies of artificial life are pushing humanity toward a digitized abyss where its essence is lost. The Tipping Point of Collapse: The Reckoning of Natural Law Due to the ultimate violation of Earth by anthropocentrism, humanity is now approaching a dual collapse—ecological and structural. This is not speculation, but a physical reality. Climate breakdown, mass extinction, and the boundary-pushing behavior of viruses are all systemic corrections by natural law (the Dao) against a species that has deviated from its proper traje
