The Metaphysical Void of Historical Materialism

This essay offers a critical evaluation of Karl Marx's historical materialism by examining its foundational metaphysical assumption: material monism. It argues that reducing reality to purely physical and economic forces fails to account for the laws of logic and the non-physical nature of human consciousness. By highlighting the fundamental disconnect between the mind and the body—specifically how atomic motion cannot produce conceptual categories of "true" or "false"—the critique demonstrates that a strictly materialist worldview cannot rationally justify objective truth. Ultimately, the essay illustrates that without a coherent metaphysical absolute, Marxist calls for social justice and liberation lose their objective moral grounding, rendering the philosophy's pragmatic defenses structurally incoherent.
