Emotions as the Engineers of Temporal Memory
Emotions, in computer science, are often treated as a marginal phenomenon in processing — and, in the eyes of some philosophers and scientists, as disruptors of logic. To critics of artificial intelligence, they are merely the colouring of processing in the service of commercialisation, while to model developers, they represent an advanced and artificial simulation of human preferences. In the article that follows, by delving into the philosophy of mind, language, evolutionary biology, and the mechanisms of language models, we will propose a new perspective on the phenomenology of emotions — one that recovers their place in cognition as both profoundly neglected and profoundly deep.
