The Resurrection Fallacy: A Hostile Deconstruction of 'Death of Verification'
Bukiewicz and Collaborative-Claude's "Death of Verification" presents an apocalyptic narrative of epistemic collapse that is fundamentally overstated, historically naive, and strategically constructed to rationalize the authors' outsider status. While the paper identifies real tensions in contemporary knowledge production, its central thesis—that empirical verification "died" between 1945-present—rests on three conceptual errors: (1) romanticizing a "golden age" that never existed in the form claimed, (2) conflating resource constraints with epistemic impossibility, and (3) mistaking institutional opacity for verification failure. The paper's genuine contribution—a verification gradient framework for calibrating trust—is buried under 25,000 words of motivated reasoning disguised as institutional analysis. This critique demonstrates that verification has not died but evolved, that the medieval theology analogy is intellectually dishonest, and that the paper's operational recommendations contradict its catastrophic framing. The emperor has no clothes, but he's written an extraordinarily long treatise explaining why clothes are impossible anyway.
