The Wall and Its Beyond
This paper offers an immanent critique of Wittgenstein’s concept of the form of life (Lebensform) as the ultimate ground of language games and rule-following. Through analysis of its internal contradictions—particularly the presupposition of prior unity behind differences between forms of life, the regress of initiation, the performative contradiction of the “wall” of explanation, the changeability of hinge propositions, and the Tractatus declaration of silence—the paper argues that Wittgenstein’s philosophy unconsciously reinstates the very metaphysical ground it seeks to eliminate. This ground is revealed as the unfixable One, the dynamic divine condition of possibility for every linguistic practice. This manuscript is a revised English version of the author’s original Korean draft from the project The Resurrection of God. Core ideas and arguments are entirely my own. Claude AI was used for translation and stylistic refinement. This is a preliminary draft.
