This paper introduces and proves the Ontological Inexpressibility Theorem, which formalizes a contradiction that arises when the empty set (∅) is treated not merely as a formal placeholder, but as a metaphysically primitive origin within Zermelo–Fraenkel set theory (ZF). Assuming ∅ as an ontological base (∅ = α₀), rather than a formal placeholder, leads to a contradiction: ∅ ∈ ∅ — violating the Axiom of Foundation. This contradiction demonstrates that no number—finite or transfinite—can consistently function as an absolute ontological beginning within standard set-theoretic axioms. The result leads to the formulation of the Non-Primacy Axiom, which asserts that ∅ cannot be considered ontologically fundamental. This challenges the default metaphysical reading of ∅ as the origin of formal mathematics, and reframes foundational assumptions at the intersection of logic, ontology, and mathematical structure.
