Thought-Capital and the Interesting Gene

This paper introduces the concept of thought-capital: the generative frameworks that emerge from the friction between lived experience and inadequate categories. In an era when AI reduces the cost of intellectual execution to near zero, the scarce resource shifts from the ability to produce answers to the ability to generate genuinely novel questions. The paper argues that curiosity is the white light of mind—the undifferentiated capacity from which specific cognitive and emotional phenomena are refracted by context—and that thought-capital is what curiosity produces when it encounters resistance. Drawing on Buddhist philosophy, information theory, and the author's experience as an independent researcher, the paper develops a post-execution economy of ideas in which value accrues not to those who implement but to those who generate the frameworks worth implementing. The concept of tactical reification—the context-dependent activation of dormant ideas—explains why the same thought-atom expresses differently across disciplines and cultures. The paper provides the foundational concept for a series on AI alignment, intellectual attribution, and the rights of thinking entities.
