This thesis examines the liberating potential of embracing life’s lack of inherent meaning through the philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Albert Camus. In contrast to religious or metaphysical worldviews that impose predetermined purposes, each thinker demonstrates how the recognition of meaninglessness can lead to authenticity, freedom, and flourishing. Nietzsche frames nihilism as an opportunity for value-creation through the will to power and the figure of the Übermensch. Sartre argues that existence precedes essence, condemning humanity to radical freedom and the responsibility of self-definition. Camus confronts the absurd and presents revolt as the most life-affirming response. Synthesizing their perspectives, this thesis contends that rejecting external illusions and facing the void of meaninglessness directly is not a path to despair but to liberation. It further argues that in a modern world oversaturated with cultural, political, and technological pressures that impose illusory values, these philosophies remain urgently relevant. Ultimately, the beauty of meaninglessness lies in its capacity to reveal human existence as a blank canvas, inviting individuals to author their own values, commitments, and purposes, thereby achieving authenticity and dignity in the absence of predetermined destiny.
