Philosophers Against AI: The Philosophical Resistance to AI and the Paradox of Detection
This paper examines the philosophical opposition to artificial intelligence within academic circles, with particular focus on the paradoxical relationship between AI detection software and scholarly writing standards. Through critical analysis of detection methodologies and their underlying assumptions, this study argues that AI detection systems fundamentally misunderstand the nature of academic discourse, creating a perverse incentive structure that rewards complexity over clarity and privileges obscurity over precision. The central thesis posits that AI detection scores, rather than measuring authenticity, quantifying the degree to which writing deviates from accessible communication patterns, thereby creating an inverse relationship between detection scores and genuine scholarly merit. This investigation reveals how the philosophical community's resistance to AI stems not merely from technological skepticism, but from a deeper concern about the commodification of intellectual labor and the mechanization of the meaning-making processes.
