The Flat Thought: Reconciling Parmenidean Monism with Gödelian Incompleteness in an Infinite Cosmos
This paper challenges the prevailing materialistic reductionism within contemporary astrophysics and cosmology by integrating ancient ontology with advanced mathematical logic, quantum field theory (QFT), and epistemic pragmatism. Utilizing the foundational axiom established in The Fractal Cogito (Palla, 2026)—which posits that "the phenomenal datum is present" without the secondary, empirical hypothesis of a persistent, diachronic self—we argue that the large-scale flatness of the universe measured by the Planck satellite is not an objective spatial container, but an epistemological projection: a Flat Thought. By treating the universe as a recursive, computational informational system (pancomputationalism), we apply Kurt Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorems to demonstrate that global determinism is a logical impossibility. The universe is structurally barred from collapsing into deterministic, maximum-entropy "white noise" because any formal system attempting to compute itself from within remains inherently vulnerable, forcing an open-ended infinity. Finally, through a Quinean-Kuhnian framework, we dissolve the tension between local predictive success and objective truth, recontextualizing empirical constants (such as CERN's data and the Higgs field) as highly functional, localized structural maps that share a formal mathematical isomorphism with a non-extended, idealist ocean of pure Being.
