From Experience to Ground: The Necessity of a Non Coercive Relational Basis
Any first-philosophy derived from a single direction remains vulnerable: a reader who declines the founding premise has not yet been reached. This paper addresses that vulnerability by approaching the ground of being from a wholly independent direction. Beginning not from the metaphysics of determination but from the structural features of finite experience — relationality, intelligibility, and agency — it asks what any adequate metaphysics must preserve as real and shows that a purely groundless relational ontology cannot meet those requirements. Without a non-derivative ground, intelligibility is brute and contingent; without a non-coercive ground, originating agency collapses into conditioned transmission; without a necessary ground, explanatory deferral is indefinite. The argument concludes that finite experience, taken seriously as a source of metaphysical constraint, requires a ground that is necessary, self-existent, intrinsically intelligible, relational, and non-coercive. The philosophical significance is architectural: this ground cannot be declined from the metaphysical direction without denying that anything determinate exists, and it cannot be declined from the phenomenological direction without eliminating the very practices — reasoning, inquiry, explanation — by which the denial would have to be articulated. Ten objections are considered and replied to, including the anthropocentrism objection, the coherence of non-coercive necessity, and the identification with classical theism. The paper establishes a phenomenological route that converges with transcendental elimination on the same structural conclusion — two independent paths arriving at the same ground without sharing premises, method, or procedure.
