Kofman and Levin (2025) systematically document clinical and laboratory cases that resist accommodation by the dominant brain-centered paradigm of cognition: patients with minimal neural tissue exhibiting normal function, consciousness persisting when brain activity has ceased, memories transferring through non-neural substrates, and cognitive abilities appearing without conventional training pathways. They ask explicitly whether frameworks exist that would predict these cases rather than struggle to explain them after the fact. This paper proposes that the formal framework of Reflective Humanism — specifically its account of hierarchical constraint, the inherited/earned hierarchy distinction, and the freeze/collapse failure mode analysis — provides exactly that. We argue that the anomalies Kofman and Levin document are not puzzles requiring special explanation but predicted consequences of a formal account of how adaptive systems maintain coherence through hierarchical constraint. We derive mechanistic accounts for terminal lucidity, minimal-substrate cognitive function, memory transfer through non-neural substrates, and acquired savant syndrome that do not currently exist in the literature, and propose a research agenda connecting the RH formal framework to Levin's established experimental program.
