Text to Breasonings- A Symbolic Pipeline for Generating Structured Reasoning from Text with a Socratic Critique
Transforming natural language into structured reasoning is a central challenge in artificial intelligence. This is especially true for systems that prioritise interpretability over statistical inference. The “Text to Breasonings” repository proposes a Prolog-based pipeline that converts text into structured reasoning units called breasonings. It combines dictionary-driven semantics with recursive transformation procedures. This paper analyses the system’s architecture and computational properties. Key files include text_to_breasonings pl, texttobr2 sh, and associated dictionary resources. The contribution of this work is twofold. First, it formally reconstructs the system as a symbolic reasoning generator. Second, it presents a Socratic critique that evaluates the system’s correctness, complexity, and generalisability. The results indicate that the system achieves transparency and extensibility. However, it suffers from significant computational overhead and lacks formal guarantees. These findings suggest that symbolic reasoning systems must integrate with optimisation frameworks to achieve scalable performance.
