Structure-Constraint Principle (SCP)
This whitepaper establishes Structure-Constraint Principle (SCP): no emergent property can arise in a system whose structure and constraints do not admit it in principle. We provide mathematical formalization across multiple frameworks (category theory, topology, measure theory), demonstrate historical precedent through limitation theorems (Gödel, Le Chatelier, thermodynamics), derive testable predictions across scientific domains, and present diagnostic tools for architectural evaluation. SCP proves that optimization cannot transcend architectural boundaries—emergent properties require enabling structures. This principle unifies emergence research across physics, chemistry, biology, AI, and engineering, providing both theoretical foundation and practical methodology.
