On Completing - On the felt moment, the forces you cannot feel, and knowing where to set the tools down
The late finale of the On ——ing series, written as a confession: that somewhere between the first essay and the last the author stopped writing about being a person and started writing about the system design that made one. The piece walks that design to its edge one final time. It advances a phenomenology of sensation in twelve terms — a felt moment as the accumulated, gated, bound sum of every channel reporting at once, each weighted by intensity, valence, resonance and above all change. The four fundamental forces are then run through it as a test, on the reasoning that a model of feeling should be right first about why the things that never leave us are the things we cannot feel. Gravity is felt constantly and adapted away; magnetism has no transducer and so never enters the sum at all; electromagnetism is at once the richest channel anyone owns and the silent force binding every molecule of the body, which shows that the rule was never about which force but about which change clears which gate; and the nuclear forces, most responsible for existing, resolve entirely into the remainder. The essay identifies this object with the author's wider coherent-existence work not by shared notation but by shared operation — a weighted sum over an index read as one value, run over channels in one case and over perspectives in the other. It then marks precisely where the testable part ends, states its central conviction as conviction rather than proof, and turns from cosmology toward the near and injured things.
