Differentiating Differentiation: Defining the Act of Universal Integration
This paper defines and defends differentiation as the ontological primitive of the Unified Axioconscious Field Theory. The central move is to read differentiation actively: not as the differentiated state of a world already sorted into distinct things, but as the differentiating act by which distinction is drawn and, in the same movement, held in coherence. So understood, differentiation is argued to be the process from which both consciousness and physical reality issue and to be underivable from anything more basic, since every candidate for its derivation, every concept, experience, physical difference, and even the law of identity already presupposes it. The act is given a working definition and analyzed into seven properties, gathered as four simultaneous faces, formative, self-referential, unfolding, and self-refining; its atemporal ground, axioconsciousness, is related to its temporal expression as structure to process; and its non-dual character is developed so that differentiation and integration are shown to be one movement rather than two. The account is situated among its philosophical predecessors, from Hegel, Deleuze, Whitehead, and Peirce to the Taoist and Buddhist traditions, Spinoza, and Bergson, and is distinguished from each. Its reach is illustrated across the quantum, gravitational, biological, sensory, and emotional domains, where a single active principle is argued to do work that other accounts distribute across many separate mechanisms. The paper closes with operational criteria for identifying differentiation, a set of loseable predictions, and the claim that reality is not a collection of things that differ but an ongoing act of differentiating.
