Primordial Temporal Field Hypothesis

I propose that the Big Bang was not a singularity in the conventional sense but a phase transition: a primordial high-energy-density field—here called the temporal field—began condensing into lower-energy condensates, producing first the gravitational field and subsequently the matter and gauge fields of the Standard Model. This conjecture extends the cosmological time dilation framework established in a preceding paper (Paper I), in which the cosmic-average rate of proper time increases monotonically as the mean gravitational potential weakens with universal expansion. In the present framework, that monotonic increase is rederived as a direct physical consequence of the temporal field’s progressive relaxation: as the field condenses, the gravitational potential weakens, and the uncondensed remainder drives continued expansion. I identify the residual uncondensed energy density of the temporal field with the cosmological constant Λ, offering a natural resolution of the cosmological constant problem that requires no fine-tuning or vacuum energy cancellation. The smallness of Λ is explained by elapsed time—most of the temporal field has condensed over 13.8 billion years. Three testable predictions follow: a deviation of the dark energy equation of state from w = −1, a secular decrease in the effective Λ on cosmological timescales, and the absence of a vacuum decay catastrophe. The mathematical formalization of the field action and coupling structure is identified as the principal open question, and collaboration with specialists in quantum gravity and field theory is sought.
