philosophy
This framework is a transcendental argument. It argues for a necessity: that any coherent answer to the ultimate question—"how is there something rather than nothing?"—logically requires the acceptance of infinity. Secondly, it claims that the most logical infinity to accept is the foundational infinity. Beginning from this question, it examines the structure of explanation, demonstrates the need for a terminus, and pushes it to the ultimate ground. Four competing accounts—infinite regress, brute fact, coherentism, and the self-grounding finite—are examined and rejected. The paper then develops the implications of this foundational infinity, arguing its mode of causation and the attributes that follow. The framework established provides a starting point for further investigation into the nature of the infinite ground behind all that IS.
