The Asubjective Movement: Patočka’s Phenomenology of Recursive Worldhood
Jan Patočka’s asubjective phenomenology dissolves the transcendental subject into the movement of worldhood itself. Reinterpreting his triad of acceptance, defense, and truth as recursive modalities of existence, this paper presents Patočka as an early theorist of worldhood as a self-renewing system. The Ab-grund or non-ground becomes a structure of recursive oscillation through which the world maintains openness by un-grounding itself. Ethical life arises from participation in this oscillation—the “solidarity of the shaken” as a form of recursive responsibility. Phenomenology thus becomes an ethics of continuation, sustaining the world’s movement rather than securing its ground.
