THE BINDING IDEA
This paper introduces the concept of the Binding Idea as the third foundational element of Ontological Density Theory, extending the frameworks established in the preceding papers on actant-based density formation and radial structure. A Binding Idea is a set of intersubjective contents—existing materially or immaterially—that coheres actants into a unified, recognizable entity. It is the ontological glue: the meta-layer that gives density its form, names its rituals, and defines the boundaries of participation. The paper argues that Binding Ideas exist on a spectrum of formalization: from unwritten tribal myth to sacred text, from oral tradition to constitutional law, from whispered doctrine to published ideology. Each step of formalization increases the density and reach of the entity by rendering the Binding Idea more durable, transmissible, and resistant to distortion. Formalization is never merely technical—it is always a political act of canonization that excludes competing variants and creates heretics. A key finding is that Binding Ideas are structurally paraconsistent: they do not operate according to classical logic and derive their power from explanatory force rather than internal coherence. Internal contradictions are not defects but adaptive features that allow different density layers—core, mid-shell, and periphery—to find meaning within the same narrative. The demand for logical consistency, a specifically modern pathology, is one of the primary mechanisms of entity dissolution. The paper further analyzes inter-entity dynamics: how Binding Ideas complement, coexist, subordinate, or destroy one another. Particular attention is given to the phenomenon of aporrheton—a term borrowed from the Greek mystery traditions—which describes the condition of a Binding Idea that has been driven underground by suppression. Aporrheton transforms prohibition into a structural feature of identity, condenses peripheral mass into concentrated core, and renders an idea paradoxically more resilient through the very force that sought to eliminate it. Keywords: ontological density, binding idea, formalization, paraconsistency, aporrheton, inter-entity dynamics, canonization, subordiantion, forbidden knowledge, social ontology
