Distinction and Reflection: A Unified Cycle from Ontology to Ethics and Society
This work proposes a unified system of definitions derived from two fundamental operators — distinction and similarity — without introducing additional terminal primitives. From these operators the following are sequentially derived: being, consciousness, observer, information, thinking, arbitration, norm, responsibility, justice, society, power, and propaganda. The system contains 70 definitions and 12 principles. It is shown that ethics follows from the ontology of the observer as a structural consequence of fixation, not as an independent domain. The gap between ‘is’ and ‘ought’ is resolved through the obligation of coherence: an observer who has fixed a state of affairs is structurally obligated to maintain coherence with subsequent fixations. Social concepts (institution, power, propaganda) are derived from the same apparatus. A number of established concepts (legitimacy, popular will, social contract) are decomposed into already-defined components and shown to function as containers masking the absence of arbitration. The system is self-unpacking: when loaded into a language model, it allows derivation of definitions not contained in the text. This property has been verified on several independent models.
