◉ Theological Preclearance: Source-Indexed Moral Judgment, Retrofitting, and the Logic of Protected Divine Goodness
A moral test that grants an unsupported exemption to an evidentially matched favored attribution supplies no fresh confirmation through that exemption. This paper develops that conditional internal critique of Christian responses to alleged divine commands of violence. Theological preclearance arranges an exemption before an evaluative rule is avowed; moral retrofitting introduces a protective change afterward. Neither asking about a source nor revising a judgment is inherently defective. A justified difference must be relevant, supported, and consistently applied; an unexplained answer remains unresolved. Using hypothetical dialogues, biblical attribution distinctions, source-switch tests, and numerical examples of prior trust and biased updating, the analysis separates strict contradiction from defensible revision and unsupported exemption. It also distinguishes the necessary goodness of a stipulated deity from the fallible identification of a text or speaker with that deity. Loving-nature theories, historical interpretation, skeptical theism, and source fallibility receive separate treatment. Research on motivated reasoning and religious cognition motivates investigation but establishes neither the pattern's prevalence nor individual motives. The conclusion neither assumes stance-independent moral facts nor refutes theism: a verdict guaranteed by prior trust cannot be counted again as the independent result of the test from which it was exempted.
